Last Monday was a lovely sunny day, so my Boyfriends Mum and I decided to work off all the cake we’d eaten by going for a ride on the bikes through the countryside. We set off with the intention of stopping at a pub for a refreshing drink but it was closed. We took the brilliant decision to stop at Drewtons for some lunch. Set on the Drewtons Estate, just outside South Cave, East Yorkshire, Drewtons boasts a lovely far shop, deli counter and tea rooms
There was cute scarecrows from the scarecrow festival laid out across the shop, with special farmers market stalls so we tried some fresh sweet orange tomatoes and bought some beetroot and orange chutney.
e sat down to look at the menu, there was loads to chose from, it even had a little note on the bottom saying “Please note: most of our dishes can be adapted to cater for wheat free and gluten free diets…we are more than happy to accommodate any special”. Have a look at the full menu . I ordered the Parma ham, sundried tomato and mozzarella panini but as a gluten free sandwich with Fentimans Rose Lemonade on the side. It was really good, there was so many dishes I wanted to try!
After lunch, we had another look around the farm shop. In the freezer was a huge array of frozen gluten free products which all looked fantastic!
We didn’t buy any this time as we were worried they would defrost on the way home! However we did treat ourselves to two cakes, a gorgeously GF carrot cake and a GF beetroot cake. The didn’t get too bashed on the way home and enjoyed them with a coffee whilst watching Water For Elephants. The were a bit dry but I can’t judge on that because we did eat them around five hours later, perhaps we should have eaten them straight away. They tasted good though, I preferred the carrot cake and I would totally buy it again! I’d highly recommend visiting Drewtons, I’ve also seen on their website that they’d are planning on doing a gluten free afternoon tea! I HAVE to try that! I suppose another cycle ride can be planned no problem! If your going with some non-gluten free-ers then I’ve been told e sausage rolls are beautiful and have won loads of awards!
Five stars from me! Wonderful local business selling wonderfully local produce!
